FONKEL (EN)

FONKEL*, the name says it all. This is, above all, a cheerful T-shirt, with sparkles that make you sparkle. Nothing more, and certainly nothing less. 
*The Dutch word ‘fonkel’ means ‘sparkle’.

The idea was born some time ago, when I felt drawn to glitters and elegant knitwear, yet knitting with glittery yarn had always held me back. In my mind, it simply wouldn’t knit well: the little beads would interrupt the smooth flow of knitting, and the metallic or plastic element of the yarn would take away the softness of a knitted fabric. Despite these limiting beliefs, I decided to give it a try, and I immediately fell in love. FONKEL simply had to exist: to be worn at parties and joyful moments, or just on any ordinary day, because sometimes life needs a little extra sparkle.

 This FONKEL T-shirt is worked top-down. The yoke is started at the back and worked flat. Each shoulder is then worked separately, also flat. Next, the shoulders are joined to shape the front yoke. After that, the front and back are joined to close the armholes and form the body, which is then worked completely in the round. The sleeves are worked in the round later on, after picking up stitches around the armholes. Finally, stitches are picked up around the neckline to knit the neckband.

Bust circumference
The bust circumference of this finished shirt measures approx. 97,5 (109, 118,5, 129,5) 139 (149, 158,5, 168) 181 cm (38½ (43, 46¾, 51) 54¾ (58¾, 62½, 66¼) 71¼ inches). The pattern is designed to be approx. 20 - 23 cm (7¾ - 9 inches) larger in circumference than your bust circumference (positive ease).

The length of the finished shirt is 48,5 (49,5, 49,5, 51) 51,5 (53, 53, 54,5) 55,5 cm (19 (19½, 19½, 20) 20¼ (20¾, 20¾, 21½) 31¾ inches).

Gauge
25 stitches x 36 rows = 10 x 10 cm (4 x 4 inches) in stockinette stitch on a 3 mm (US 2.5) needles, after washing and laying flat to dry.
